Sydney FC have defeated Newcastle 1-0 at the Jubilee Stadium thanks to an own-goal by the Jets' Nigel Boogaard. Melbourne Victory fought their way back from a 3-1 deficit to clinch a draw with Wellington Phoenix at AAMI Park. The A-League's bottom two couldn't be split as Central Coast Mariners and Brisbane Roar played out a draw. Melbourne City and Perth Glory failed to break the deadlock as Glory extended their lead at the top of the table to four points. Western Sydney Wanderers fell to another defeat as Craig Goodwin sealed the points for Adelaide. Central Coast Mariners grabbed their first win of the season and broke their 10-match losing streak being Melbourne City at the Central Coast Stadium. Newcastle striker Kaine Sheppard has set his sights on playing himself into the starting line-up after securing a one-year extension with the A-League club. The Jets on Tuesday announced Sheppard had signed on for another year after a strong start to his rookie campaign following his graduation from the NPL. The 25-year-old has scored two goals and tallied two assists in 10 games so far this season, and it was enough to earn a new deal from coach Ernie Merrick.
